A tradition of excellence! The Roughneck Band boasts a twenty-plus year tradition as one of the finest public school bands in Texas. Competing as both a University Interscholastic League class A and class AA high school, the band has experienced success in all facets of performance including marching, concert, all-region and all-state bands, and solo and ensemble contests. On five occasions the Roughneck Band has represented the state of Texas at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. and has toured New York City. The "Pride of the Oil Patch" has advanced to the UIL State Marching Contest seventeen times, and has appeared in the finals each of those years, including capturing its fifth state championship in 2005. Results include: 1979 - Class A - State Runner-Up 1980 - Class A - 5th 1982 - Class A - 4th 1983 - Class A - 4th 1987 - Class A - State Champion 1988 - Class A - State Champion 1989 - Class A - State Champion 1990 - Class AA - State Runner-Up 1991 - Class AA - State Runner-Up (beginning of contest held only on odd numbered years) 1993 - Class AA - State Runner-Up 1995 - Class AA - 5th 1997 - Class AA - 4th 1999 - Class AA - 5th 2001 - Class AA - 3rd 2003 - Class A - State Champion 2005 - Class A - State Champion 2007 - Class A - State Runner-Up In addition, the Roughneck Band has received the UIL "Sweepstakes" award 42 times, including each of the last 21 consecutive years.
